Govt. at work to provide free basic healthcare to people: Health Minister Basnet

Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet has shared the government's preparation of providing free basic health services to people.

The ministry was working to provide free healthcare to people as guaranteed by the constitution and as per its policy, he said at an event organized hand of the newly-constructed province health emergency operation center at Laxminiya Rural Municipality-4 in Dhanusha district.

Minister Basnet shared that the ministry would resolve problems revolving around the health sector within six months. 'In the first phase, the ministry has completed the allocation of a total of 325 beds at private and government hospitals across the country for the poor and helpless people. The provision for private and government health facilities to allocate 10 percent of beds for poor and helpless people is being strictly implemented,' he said.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development of Madhes Province, Krishna Prasad Yadav, pointed out the need of allocating a budget based on the population to resolve the problems seen in the health sector of Madhesh Province.

Likewise, the Minister for Health and Population of the Province, Birendra Kumar Singh, shared that necessary activities are underway to reform the health sector of the Province and the decision has also been taken to upgrade all district hospitals up to 100 beds.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Roshan Pokharel, World Health Organisation Representative to Nepal, Dr. Rajesh Sambhajirao, additional secretary of the Health Ministry, Sangita Kaushal Mishra, and Secretary at the Health and Population Ministry of Madhes province, Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, expressed the belief that it would be easy to provide service during natural disaster in the province due to operation of Province Health Emergency Work Operation Centre.

The Centre was constructed with the financial assistance of Rs 8.87 million from the WHO to carry out activities on time during natural disasters.
